4T Arena : Team Cattle Penning is the fastest growing western horse sport in North America. Today's event takes place near Bridgeport, West Virginia at the indoor 4T Arena.
A fast-paced event, three riders cut through a herd of 8 steer/cows, separating them by the number in 90 seconds.
Team penning is not a science but an art.
Penning tests the cutter's ability to maneuver through the herd and extract one or more of the right cows. It tests the turnback riders abilities to control the trash cattle and support the cutter. Good communication between the team contributes to successful pennings.
ALL 108 pictures are in! For those I missed my apologies. There is next time!

Silver Spurs : Talk about a beautiful Fall day! The colors in Raleigh county are PRIME! The crowd was great here today. The show went off on the practice ground as the ring below was flooded/mudded!
I met a fine pro-photographer and his wife at this show. Seems the club has a club photographer and thats great! I still hope you enjoy my shots! I hope to visit again in May 2007!

October in West Fork : Don't bet your farm based on the weather forecasts! With all good intentions the weather folks got this weekend wrong.
Sunny means sunny not cloudy.
Unless there are new officers elected this year, it may be the end of another fine horse club in West Virginia. The secret to success is V-O-L-U-N-T-E-E-R-S. Adults, think of your children, your horses and their future together. KEEP WEST FORK ALIVE! A once a month, local event where you have six months off!
That's way better than the National Guard. Even I have weed-eated and cleaned the kitchen to help. Ok Ok, I'll get off the soap box....on with the pictures! ALL 150 pictures are in!! Comment on some of these puppies!

Holly Gray : This year has been a rain filled one for the Central West Virginia Riding Club. Rain seemed to fall on the same schedule as the shows each month!
For most of the show this Saturday no rain but the prior-effects were still evident as riders rode around and out of the mud and standing water. I hope the pictures attest to the fun that can't be washed away!

Rocky Fork Rodeo : A foggy start turns to a cool cloudy September day. Just outside of Kimbolton Ohio is the Rocky Fork Rodeo Company.
A place of continuing education for K-12th grade students; boys and girls learn the proper way to perform various rodeo events. Also they learn sportsmanship, honest competition and safety. A strong foundation to start the lives of cowboys and cowgirls and to help keep the "Western Heritage" alive!

A side note: These kids are rough and tough! I photographed some awesome talent and courage from these kids! And I don't mean goats.
I never been to an event with so many cameras present! A sign of some proud parents! RODEO ON!
REMEMBER ALBUMS ARE AVAILABLE of the entire show.
My apologies if I didn't get you at this show, not to fret as I will return....one day!

"Just Horsin Around" in August : Cloudy on the way to Elizabeth, rain gathers on the windshield and then quits. The sun and blue hot skies return over the arena. Though a smaller crowd, the show held big fun for those attending. The shade trees kept most of the heat off the horses and visitors making things comfortable. Enough rain fell after the Ladies Barrel class to knock down the dust.
Brandy Milhoan judged todays event. Look forward to the next show Sept. 24th!

Waterford Miniatures : YES, it's the WEST VIRGINIA Miniature Horse Club in Waterford OHIO.
A unique club that travels the Mountain State exhibiting their miniatures!
This however is their benefit show.
Graciously located on the 190 acres owned by Harley and Diana Sanders is the
"Heart of the Wolf Farms" on Wolf Creek.
This years event took place under a hot August sun with thundering threats of rain all around.
Yet all 49 classes went off dry! If you like the minis, you'll love this show!
Judge Kathleen Woodard of Circleville, Ohio; presiding.
A side note: If driving through Beverly, stop in at Pepperoni's and say hi to my friends there!

Thank you everyone, all pics are in! All 256! An eye-ful for you to enjoy and treasure forever. Your club put forth much effort (esp. the costume class) and the hard work and friendliness showed. God willing I can shoot you next year!

WV State Championships 2006 : Located near the Coalfields resides the community of Danville and home to the Southern West Virginia Horsemans Association.
A two day event unfolded with rain and mud and ended with one of the best days a horse show could have.
Attendance was at an all time high as riders competed for the State Championship Racking Title amongst other honors!
Much hard work was made by the club members as much hard work was made by the horse owners, in preparation, of this prestigeous event!

Please remember, you don't have to settle for these photos. If you want a B&W background, people or objects removed, simply email me your request with your picture #. Thanks. Oh, by the way, where are all the fine comments!? See a horse or rider you enjoyed? Leave them a comment.

SUMMER CELEBRATION : The Summer Celebration at Holly Gray Park went off with no rain! Though mostly shot at night, many pics you'll notice are not the sharpest. My respect for the horses (and owners) is the reason I don't use flash. These horses are trained to compete and I stand to not ruin one chance of the competing classes by using a flash. Understanding this I try to capture the best available light in the ring.
Thanks for understanding.

Supporting his family as a pipe-lineman for 40 years, his friends here will miss him at the entry gate collecting the one dollar admission. And his conversational whit! :-)
